The controls take a minute to get used to but the system works very well for this game. I have not made it far in the game (real life stuff) but I have found exploration rewarding and dialogue engaging. TL DR - This is not a "fast" game, and that is a very good thing. You can just start attacking everything in sight, but that's on you. So from a lore-perspective, there's a lot there if you know anything about real-world history, and you have to be willing to talk to people. All of the Fallout games I've played took place in the United States, so you often had some sort of patriotic or semi-patriotic (both good and bad) group, but here you can find a guy who used to be (as he claims) part of the Inner Circle, except he has next to no power. On top of that, some of the people you meet are still die-hard Communists, so it's interesting to see a post-Soviet, post-apocalyptic world. Yes, this is a story where the Cold War went reaaaal hot, reaaaal fast. The game takes place 20 years in the future, after the bombings, specifically, 2005. I will admit that since the game is in native Russian, some of the English translation is a bit iffy, but I have not seen any dialogue or exposition that was rendered incomprehensible because of it.īut I would also argue that that is part of the appeal. My native resolution is 2560x1440 at 120 refresh, but it supports just about any screen size you want, with at least five levels of detail running from "Best Performance" to "Fantastic" The graphics settings are easy to adjust, and you can even tweak the size of the UI to your liking. Without spoiling anything, there's room for heartwarming, cleverness, and outright betrayal, and the obvious culprit (if there is one) may be innocent. The tutorial is very helpful here, especially since you start in the tutorial area.Īs far as story goes, I've only made it to the first area, but it's already subverted my initial expectations. It's a lot of clicking, but I found it intuitive. The gameplay is free-roaming regarding exploration, but combat becomes a turn-based affair. Your character's appearance is based on the portrait you pick, but it's really easy to restart if you picked a portrait you liked but the hair is the wrong color. The gameplay is isometric, but the camera is free-spinning and you can zoom, so it's a bit "old-school" but with modern precision. Option to change the item highlight color New item with the ability to reset your stats and skills ĭozens of new characters with unique dialogues, portraits and quests Ī quest line that can be tackled by joining any one of the two new factions New animations, including a special martial arts move you may learn New graphic elements (icons, portraits, items, in-game art) New follower settings including friendly fire settings Improved English translation thanks to you, our players, and a wonderful writer Scott Hamm who worked on such titles as “Age of Decadence” and “Battle Brothers” įull mod support - we promised and we delivered Quality of life improvements - your recommendations were heard and implemented in the new inventory and follower systems The inventory management is easier, the interface in general is more intuitive, the follower mechanics have more options, the re-balancing of weapons made combat more dynamic and interesting, especially during the new random encounters.Īnd of course we added a lot of new NPCs, quests and maps for you to test all of the new features. So if you want to be sure you are getting the absolute best deal, take a moderately costly item you always carry with you (I used the Crowbar, then the Scanner) and see how much they pay for it.Playing ATOM is now genuinely more comfortable. There's still some variability between the traders inside that qualitative classification. But KZM has more money, so eventually you'll get so much loot dumping stuff on the High's won't bother you even though they pay less than half what you can get with a Low. The donation booth, bookseller and the gunsmith are really high. Stall vendors are medium (building side) and medium high (ship side). The two stall traders outside the Walls are Lows. The absolutelly worst place in general is Kraznoznamenny. Wandering caravans are usually medium barter. Low ones usually have little money though. Ostradnoye has Low and Medium barter (low barter = pays more for loot and asks for less when selling stuff). Traders may specialize on what they sell, but they do not pay more for stuff related to their specialty.Įvery city has a mixed bag of traders.
